The Octagon - Kingham Hill School Days Forum

The Octagon was the name of a debating
forum that existed on The Hill in the 1950s
and 60s.

You can go straight to our modern electronic equivalent forum by clicking the image on the right.

Some of you who are unfamiliar with forums might appreciate some background information, a few tips on how to access the forum and how to use it.

Introduction and basic guide to The Octagon forum

As a member of The Octagon forum you can post messages and banter with other ex-students of The Hill who have also signed up
as members.

At present this forum is experimental. We need you to use the forum and let us know what you think so that we can develop the forum into a useful resource for all our members.

As a member you can also view other members' profiles, send private messages directly to other members, and set up your own profile on line.

Access to the forum is free at present, but eventually we envisage charging a small annual membership fee to help support this website.

The first time you visit the forum you'll need to register. Click REGISTER and then follow your nose.

Think before you ink!!

You'll need to provide a Username. You should use the name you were known by at school, or your real name if the same. This will help former pupils remember and so make contact with you.

You'll also have to enter your email address and a password that you make up.

Note: Your email address will NEVER be shown to other members.

The password must be between 6 and 30 characters.

You'll need the password on each occassion you log into the forum so we suggest you keep it handy.

Once you're inside The Octagan, you'll see a page something like the image on the right.

You can return to the School Days site at any time by clicking the "Return to Kingham Hill School Days" link at the top of the page.

The forum consists of two sections:

Announcements and useful information
Private area for members

The Private area for members is where you can post messages for your fellow members, but it's worth checking the Announcements section for the hints and tips and the welcome message.

To set up your profile, and to set your preferences, click the link User Control Panel just below the Board Index link.

To get back to The Octagon's main page simply click the Board Index link from wherever you are in the forum.

To view other members and their profiles click
the link Members towards the top right of your screen.

To adjust the text size locate and click the A symbol on the upper right of the screen

There are three settings of text size. Small medium and slightly larger.

The main forum administrator is called
The Warden. He is in charge!!!

You are invited to add you own picture, or "avatar", to your profile page. Preferably you'll use a picture from your school days as this will help others to remember you. If you need help with this then please contact us.

You should make sure that pictures are no larger than 100 x 100 pixels. They won't work otherwise.
